Naas Alcameth is a terrifying genius, responsible for three incredible black metal projects that all share the same foundational occultist vision but manifest their evil through different expressions: Bestia Arcana (the most vicious), Akhlys (the most atmospheric and experimental), and Nightbringer (the most melodic, though temper your expectations of respite). All of these projects are blisteringly intense, but Ego Dominus Tuus is perhaps the most complete of the lot, with the most variety and greatest consistency in terms of quality from track to track. Akhlys’ The Dreaming I brings me to another world and Bestia Arcana’s Holokauston fills me with homicidal rage like few other albums can, but Ego Dominus Tuus elicits the widest range of emotional responses from me, and will always hold a special place in my heart as my first exposure to the supremely compelling vision of Alcameth. This is a landmark album of USBM, and stands as the equal of nearly anything released by anyone in black metal. Buy or die!
